Privacy policy
Gift Exchange Game ("we", "us") makes the Gift Exchange Game app for Android and iOS and runs giftxgame.com. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
Account information. Your email address and password when you create an account. Passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication and we never see them.
Your name. The display name you enter, which other members of your groups see.
Game information. The groups you create or join, the gift you ask for (name, details, and links), the gift you're assigned to buy, and your guesses and scores in the guessing game. Members of a group can see this information as the game goes on, for example the gift each person asked for is revealed in the results.
Email addresses you invite. When an organizer invites someone, we store that email address with the group and send that person an invite email.
Information stored on your phone. The app saves your unsubmitted guesses on your device so you don't lose them. This stays on your phone.
We do not collect your phone number, address, location, contacts, or payment information. The app has no advertising or analytics tracking, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
How we use information
- To create and manage your account and let you sign in.
- To run the game: show your groups, hand out gift assignments, and score the guessing game.
- To send invite emails and password reset emails.
- To respond when you contact us.
Service providers
We use a few trusted services to run the app. They process data only to provide their service to us:
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Realtime Database, Cloud Functions, and Hosting) stores account and game data and hosts this website.
- Twilio SendGrid sends invite emails.
We do not sell or rent your information. We share it only with the service providers above, or if required by law, or to protect the security and integrity of the app.
Affiliate links
Some links to stores in the app and on this website are affiliate links, including links to Amazon. When you open one, you leave our app or site, and the store and affiliate network may use cookies or similar technology to record that the visit came from us, under their own privacy policies. We do not receive your personal information from them. See our affiliate disclosure.
This website
giftxgame.com does not use analytics or advertising cookies. Like most websites, our hosting provider may log basic technical information such as IP address and browser type to keep the site running and secure. The site loads fonts from Google Fonts.
Keeping and deleting your information
We keep your information while you have an account. You can delete your account at any time in the app: open the About tab and tap Delete account. This deletes your sign-in and your account record.
Your name, gift wish, and guesses inside groups you belonged to can remain part of that group's history so the game still works for the other members. To have those removed too, or if you can't sign in, email us at ndowell@giftxgame.com from your account's email address and we will delete them.
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections and stored with Google Firebase. We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no system can guarantee complete security.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We'll change the effective date above, and for significant changes we'll let you know in the app.
